Riders win and now get ready for Creston

Riders get a 6-2 home ice win vs Invermere.
Next up is Creston in Creston Friday then Creston
plays here in Fernie Saturday.

By Saturday both teams will be much closer to their opening rosters,
so Saturday's game should be a good one.

Main Camp 2016 is over

The Ghostriders Main Camp finished up Sunday afternoon and Head Coach Craig Mohr was "very, very happy" with the way it turned out. The veteran players from last season came ready to play and although they let up on some potential huge hits the games were competitive.

The players who were here last season in training camp remarked that this year's camp was much better than last year and they are looking forward to the regular season start up on September 9th in Kimberley, or in Cranbrook if the City workers are out due to a labour dispute.

But first there are four exhibition games to get through, August 30th  vs Invermere then on the 31st vs Invermere right here in Fernie.  September 2nd the Riders play in Creston then on Saturday September 3rd Creston is here in Fernie.

Coach Mohr signed 6 players after Camp.
Mike Dyck (98) a centre from Calgary,
Riley Siebel (98) a winger from Calgary,
Matt Rogers (98) a winger from Delta BC
Evan Traverse (98) a centre from Fernie

Main Camp this weekend

The Ghostriders Main Camp goes Friday Saturday and Sunday at the Fernie Memorial Arena. Head Coach Craig Mohr tells me he's got 13 veterans back in camp including new Captain Alex Cheveldave. Mohr also has several prospects, and some good locals skating as well.

The four games should be entertaining and any interested fans are encouraged to come out take a look at the start of this year's team.

As usual when all the junior "A" Camps are done more players will show up in town but several of the guys skating this weekend are expected to make the opening roster.

Pascal Morency moves on and says goodbye to the players and staff.

Ghostrider Assistant Coach Pascal Morency has left the Riders for the QMJHL where he will serve as an Assistant Coach with the Val-D'Or Foreurs. Pascal sent this note to the "News" Saturday afternoon.

Dear Riders,

I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude to the organization. Coach Craig for his skills, confidence and acknowledgement towards me. The Godfather "Panger the legend" for his insightful advice and wisdom. The iron man Jeff for his position as a role model and all the players for their openness and their values. They all have been a significant part of my journey and stepping stones in my life.

What a great community, and it is a privilege to be able to play this unique game of hockey in a town like Fernie BC. I see many great memories that will be created with this organization in near future as it is lead and guided by an amazing staff. I will miss these two beings (Heather Lewis and Kayla Newfeld) that care for players inside and outside of themselves and Darren, Brader and Donavan for their amazing kindness.

Keep being this organization of value which is open to always evolve and change. Keep developing players inside out for not only their career but their life as well. I will follow you from across Canada!

Riders, remain the shinning light that you are for the KJIHL.

Sincerely

Pascal

Meet The Ghostriders New Captain

Rider boss Craig Mohr has just announced that  Alex Cheveldave will be the team Captain this season.

Cheveldave contacted Rider HC and GM Craig Mohr last week and said that he wanted to play in Fernie again this season. My guess is Mohr probably jumped right out of his phone to shake his hand and offer him the the Captains "C when he got that call.

Last season Alex started out on the wing but played the last half on the blueline and was named and the Team Playoff MVP at the end of the year. As a 20 year old Cheveldave brings lots of experience that includes a run with the Jr A Yorkton Terriers of the SJHL.

Cheveldave also plays with a pretty good "edge" and makes the enemy keep their heads up.  Coach Mohr plans to play him on the blueline, his normal position, this year... but if anything happens up front, he is an excellent option. Chevy will be the Riders  25th "C".

WELCOME BACK ALEX ! ... getting any ideas #14
