Riders get a 6-4 win in Kimberley

The Ghostriders got a 6-4 win on the road in Kimberley last Sunday night. The Riders had leads of 2-1 at the end of the first and 3-1 at the end of the second. Eric Buckley had the Kimberley goal on the PP while Sam Plaquin, Aaron Neufeld and Doan Smith had even strength goals.

All that boring even strength stuff was thrown in the dumpster in the third.  The Riders started riding the circus unicycle first scoring two PP goals, both from Doan Smith and the Riders  had a seemingly insurmountable 5-1 lead. Then on a Ghostrider PP Jordan Busch scored shorthanded and after that the Riders were nailed for three penalties in a row and the Dynamiters took their turn on the unicycle with two PP goals of their own. Lincoin Lane (who they just got from Grand Forks in their fire sale from a cuppa weeks ago)  and Nitro top gun Jason Richter scored the goals and suddenly it was 5-4 and the Nitro’s were put back on the PP for the last 1:54 of the third. Kimbo put the fear of Bob Probert into the eyes of the Rider fans for a while but Brandon Butler held the fort and with 2 seconds left Rider D Evan Reid who spent most of the night rushing the puck out of harms way and into the Kimbo zone blocked a shot and chased it down and into the empty net.

It’s hard to win on the road in this Division for whatever reason and the Riders are the only team to have a winning road record at 10-5-0-1, so even though they almost gave up the lead in the third, it was a good outing and they won their first game after the break.

Notes 

With 3 goals and an assist Doan Smith now leads the KIJHL in scoring since Rebel Lubin has moved on to  the NOJHL.

The oft suspended Eric Buckley was hit in to the boards in the third by Rider  Justin Peers, the referees consulted with each other for 5 minutes before deciding not to call a penalty... my guess... if it was another player they might make the call, Buckley, for the record had an assist on Richter's goal a minute or so later and was the Kimbo POG 

Aaron Neufeld with a G and 2 A was Fernie's POG.... was Kimbo  trying to get Doan Smith when GM Mohr got him 3 G 1 A ... just sayin.

Reid's EN goal was also SH but the stats below don't show either SH goal the team's had.
