The Weekly Roundup

The Ghostriders played two home games last weekend. On Saturday they lost 5-4 in double overtime to the Beaver Valley Nitehawks then on Sunday they decimated the Columbia Valley Rockies 7-2 .
Even though the boys lost Saturday, they still got a point and have earned at least a point in every home game so far this year. Their home record is 14-0 with 1 overtime loss and 1 tie... and on the Road they are 9-4-0-1. Below are the standings as of Monday AM. The Riders are firmly in first with games in hand on everyone.

Ghostrider Notebook

Dylan Robertson scored the goal that released the Teddy Bears onto the ice in the Beaver Valley game. 681 fans and players voted on the Ghostrider Team website on who would score the "Bear Releasing Goal" and no one picked Robertson... and I made it so you could vote for yourself as many times as you wanted Dylan...

Anyway... Robertson also deflected Peers shot that was the game tying goal on the power play late in the third that gave the Riders a point and took the game into OT. Great all around game by #3.

Tayler Sincennes chipped in with a goal and an assist against the tougher than they were a month ago Nitehawks... He's one who Coach Mohr mentioned along with the aforementioned Robertson in our talk the other day saying... "Sincennes (and Robertson) has been playing really well lately "

Sincennes, pronounced Sincennes, played well enough that the Coaches picked him as the Tim Horton's Player of the Week and Jason Yan was named as the McDonald's Practice Player of the Week.

Jeff Orser was in net for one of his rare losses against BV but still has a 15-3-1 record and Joel Burgess had the other goal.   D-man Zak Kuchler had 2 assists, those points are the important ones playing against good teams in close games.

The Riders defeated Beaver Valley 8-1 on the road in November but since then the Hawks have added a few bigger and better players and it showed Friday as they outhit the Riders and won the game.

Oddly enough when it went into overtime I thought it would favor the speedier Riders but they barely touched the puck and the Hawks deservingly got the double overtime win. Perhaps the players took BV a little too lightly, especially after a big win and having such a good first period.

Against the last place Rockies the Riders had a shorthanded goal (Derek Georgopoulos) and two power play goals in a 7-2 win. Jason Yan had 2 goals and an assist and Burgess, Doan Smith, and Cavin Tilsley (98) each had a goal and an assist. Brandon Butler got the win in net and Will Lightfoot got his first point in his second game since signing up with Fernie a cupla weeks ago. He looked alright to me... especially considering we hear he hadn't skated for a month or so, he will get better in the next few weeks for sure. Coach Mohr says he was pleased with Lightfoot "He makes you pay a price in the corners."

Well I'd like to see some more fans pay the price, when they announced 505 at the game Saturday a quick look around tells me there were at least 100 freeloaders... of which Im one... I gotta admit

Round the League

Right now the Riders are in a race with Osoyoos for the first overall spot and the Riders gained a point with a win and an OT loss last weekend while the Coyotes won one in Princeton but lost 2-0 in Kelowna who are in 4th place 14 pts behind Osoyoos. Proving you better be ready every game. After the Weekend Fernie had 49 and Osoyoos had 53 pts and the Riders had 3 games in hand.

Kelowna is still without scoring star Nic Josephs...but he is on their roster according to the unofficial KI site.

Kamloops won 7-3 in 100 Mile with 13 skaters. How fun was that for the Storm players. They have a few guys up playing Jr A.

Nice to see Ty Rebelato get his first goal with the Rockies on Dec 12.

Riders are in Kimbo Saturday, here's what goin on there.
Dynamiters keep pace in KIJHL's Eddie Mountain Division; visit Creston Valley Tuesday:

All last weeks games in one place with short write ups and links

Former Rider HC and GM Dale Hladun talks a bit about his team in 100 Mile this yr. They have a couple of former Ghostriders on their team. D-men Odeline and Webber Read more here

Nelson went into Grand Forks and ran up the score 10-1 former Rider Matt McDonald had 3 G and 3 A... nice outing but no show in Spokane the next night losing 2-1.

Summerland had a pic of Klingspohn (Summerland) and Garcia (100 Mile) kneeling down in the pre-game warmup and having a chat... I bet I know who the two former Nitro's were talkin about...  and you can take that to the bancks...

Former Forwards () and Tyler Garcia ( ) catch up pre-game.
Below is from the Osoyoos Times, their writer was impressed with the Ghostriders. "Much Stronger" is a stretch if you ask me but two wins is really good. Wondering what Ken Law thought of that story next time he saw the reporter...

Fernie is the much stronger team of the two and has the second-best record in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) behind the Coyotes. Read the full story here
