In game one played here in Fernie last Wednesday the Riders scored 5 in the first and 2 in the third for a 7-1 win.  Fernie went3-6 on the power play and out shot Golden 35-23. The Rockets lone goal was on the power play by Braden Alkins.

D man Evan Reid had 2 assists and Aaron Neufeld capped all the scoring off with 3 assists.  Jeff Orsercame close to a shutout but gave up a PP goal but still stopped 22 of 23 for the win in net.

The Ghostriders had 609 fans come out to watch the big win and the chicken dance last Wendesday.

Game # 2  6-2 Win
On Friday night in Golden the Rockets Cole Mckechney scored a shorthanded goal five minutes into the game then the Riders stormed back with three goals of their own in the first and one in the second for a 4-1 lead.
In the third the Rockets Braden Alkins fired one in making it  4-2 but the Riders ruined their comeback attempt  with two more goals.

Spencer Bender scored the game winner in the first period. Other scorers were Sam Plaquin, Joel Burgess, Jason Yan, Justin Peers (1 G 1 A) and Aaron Neufeld with 1 G 2 A. Cole Keebler had 2 assists as well.
The Rockets outshot Fernie 28-25 but Jeff Orser stoned them only allowing two goals.
Fernie was 1-8 on the power play and killed all 3 power plays Golden had.

On Sunday night here in Fernie
The Ghostriders earned them selves a 3-0 series lead with a 4-1 home ice win against Golden on Sunday.

The Riders opened the scoring on the PK when Sam Plaquin stole the puck off a Rocket defender on their blue line than fed Aaron Neufeld who beat the Rocket's Viberg for a 1-0 lead. Braden Alkins tied the game on the PP mid period then Plaquin scored one of his own on a partial breakaway just before he was helped into  the net resulting in a few flying bodies a broken goal stick and and the net off it's moorings.

There was no scoring in the second but in the third Plaquin and Neufeld set up Derek Georgopoulos for a 3-1 lead, then Evan Reid made the pass of the night right on the stick of Spencer Bender who barely had to move his hands to tap the puck in for the final goal.

As in the first game Jeff Orser was near perfect only letting in one goal, 3 games 3 wins a 1.33 goals against average and he stopped 94.7 % of the shots he faced.

Our sharp eyed Fernie Free Press reporter Sara Moulton shows us why the Rider goal in the second period was disallowed (Golden also had one turned back as well but we don't take those pics lmfao)

Bittersweet story for this hack to put together this week ": Riding together in the KIJHL "

Well you just don't hear about this very often "anymore"...and that's probably a good thing as it was popular back in the day... A guy I work with took his AA Midget team down to Great Falls for a tournament. After the first bunch of games one of the other team's from a place that starts with the letter C went out for a few then came back and trashed their hotel room and were subsequently escorted back to the border. I should send Joe Walsh an email

A Tweet from Summerland on a suspension.

.ca. @JackMills0 susp 1 gm for 2nd G
Interference in same game. Tough pill to swallow for
@SteamKIJHL heading into Gm 3.

But It didn't matter last night... because
Summerland 10 @ Kelowna 4 Steam now leads 2-1
Paulson Lautard 3 G Daylan Robertson 4 A Wilson,
Eliuk, Jones 1 G 1 A Huber the W in net. Steam had 5 PP G's

Again this year the KIJHL won't tell us who their award winners
are until they have handed them out making us use Tweets (sometimes no better than rumours) for our information . Fair enough KI... but as you hand them out at least post the winners...

We know that all the players know each other and follow what the other guys are doing, especially at the higher levels. Most KIJHL players would love to play in the WHL so here's a fascinating read on who was voted (by insiders, not guys like me) as the WHL's best. …. Includes Cranbrook's Ben Betker...who was once a Rider AP
Brandon Formosa played with Creston last year and was considered by some to be a bad guy because of the suspensions etc. But if you were around here in the 90's and remember the weekly line brawls and all the carnage from that era, you would probably say that Formosa was just one of the guys, but skill wise he was a hi end beauty and any team would have wanted him...

  1. I count 6 KIJHL grads here is there more ?
  2. There are 9.
The BCIHL isn't the only place KIJHL er's can go to after their junior career is over.
